Our Worship Service
At Southside Church of Christ we invite you to
worship with us. We want you to feel comfortable and
welcomed. We hope that you will be impressed by the
simplicity of our services, our reverence for the scriptures
and the love and friendliness of our members. Our
attire is anywhere from dress-up to
casual. Feel free to come as you are.
You will be greeted by our friendly
Greeters at the front door. If you are a visitor you
will be asked to fill out a visitor's card.
Our order of worship will include the
following:
Call to Worship
One of our Elders will make the "Call to Worship".
It is usually in the form of a scripture, which he may have
the congregation repeat after him, and is followed by a prayer.
Singing
We will be
lead in congregational singing by a song leader. What's different about our
singing is that it is all a-capella, that is there is no
instrumental music. This is not by choice, but by
conviction. As we strive to worship according to the
New Testament pattern, we exclude instrumental music from
our worship as did the early Christians.
1Corinthians 14:15,
Ephesians 5:18-19,
Colossians 3:16,
Hebrews 2:12
Prayer
There will
be several prayers during the service. Mainly after the
scripture reading, before the speaker, and for specific
needs after the invitation at the close of the sermon.
Preaching
There will be gospel preaching which is designed to convict
and encourage.
Our Senior Minister normally preaches during our morning
worship service; however other
brethren, if needed, are available to preach as well.
We believe that all Christians are equal; therefore, our
minister does not have a title and is usually referred to as
brother.
Matthew 23:8-12,
Galatians 3:26-28,
1Peter 2:5,9
Invitation
At the
close of the sermon, the minister will "extend the
invitation". This is an opportunity for those who are
ready to make a commitment to God to be baptized.
Others may come forward for special prayer requests, to ask
for forgiveness of sin, or place membership with our
congregation. As the congregation stands and sings a song,
please come to the front of the auditorium where you will be given
a card to fill out your request. You will be asked to
stand while your request is being read, and then you may take
your seat.
Communion
On the first day of every week, we partake of the Communion as Jesus instructed. A tray will be passed that
includes both individual pieces of unleavened bread, which
represents Christ's body, and small cups of grape juice,
which symbolizes Christ's blood. Take a piece of the bread
and eat it, followed by drinking the cup which is placed
back in the tray.
If you are a guest and choose not to participate, feel free
to pass the tray to the person next to you.
Acts 20:7,
I Corinthians 11:23-33
Offering
An offering, or collection, is taken every first day of the
week also. Each one is to give of his means as he has
prospered and purposes in his heart. If you are a guest
it is not expected of you to participate, feel free to pass
the tray if you wish not to give.
1 Corinthians 16:1,
II
Corinthians 9:7
Visitors & Announcements
At the end of our
worship service, we take time to welcome our visitors.
Guests should have filled out a visitors card as you came
in. After your name is read you will be asked to
stand briefly, not to embarrass you in any way, but to see
who you are in order to formally greet you later.
After
the announcements are read, we will be lead in a closing
prayer. |
