Our History
The
Lord's work at the Southside congregation began in late 1972 at
3808 South Angeline Street with approximately 25 members.
Worship was held at this location until the move in 1975 to 3518 South Edmunds Street. To secure this
property required a labor of love by all of the faithful members
of the congregation. The influence of Bro. Charles Webb and
Bro. Briset Orange was instrumental, as they encouraged the
church to support the purchase of the building.
From 1975
to 1980 the building experienced many improvements with the
help of the membership under the leadership of Bro. Webb
who labored with the Southside congregation until his retirement
in 1987. In 1980, we
began the process of remodeling the building because of growth,
lack of classrooms and the need for extensive repair. The
Architectural Department at the University of Washington agreed
to take the remodeling design on as a class project. After
completion of the preliminary plans, Gene Skirvin and Associates
completed the design of the building. During construction,
worship services were held at Columbia Elementary School.
Construction was completed in 1982.
Following
Bro. Webb's retirement in 1987, Bro. Harper began his work with
the congregation. Bro. Harper's efforts to focus on evangelism,
leadership development and encouragement has been instrumental
in the growth of the church. Through his leadership and
guidance, the congregation appointed its first elders and
deacons. His wife has also been very influential in the
development of the Women's Ministries at Southside.
As the congregation grew, we
began the search for property in order to construct a larger
facility. On February 10, 2007 we celebrated our ground breaking
at 12200 59th Avenue South in Seattle, Washington. The
building was ready for occupancy in December 2009.
