BUILDING THE CHURCH THROUGH THE BIBLE SCHOOL

Several years ago Life Magazine reported that the hour between 10:00 am and 11:00 am on Sunday morning was “the most wasted hour in America”. The magazine was criticizing the ineffectiveness of “Sunday Schools”. This caused many to ask the question “What is our Bible School hour like on Sunday morning”?

The Bible School must be organized for growth. It does not happen by accident, but requires a vision for growth with the necessary structure to achieve the desired goals.

According to Matthew 28:19-20, there are at least four religious purposes for our teaching.

1–We can reach non-Christians through our Bible School classes. Many will come to class as a guest of members or even on their own. This provides us with a tremendous opportunity to visit personally with them with the intent of setting up a personal Bible study.

2-We are to make disciples – If our own children are not becoming Christians through our Bible School, something is wrong. Our Bible School can be re-organized to achieve a greater evangelistic purpose.

3–Teach and train students for active service. No church can be stronger than its teaching program. The purpose of our teaching is to equip every person for the work of ministry based on his/her abilities (Ephesians 4:16, Romans 12:4-8).

4–Train and encourage students to teach the non-members. Some use the plan called KAA
 – K stands for knowledge. We must make sure the Bible is taught in every class
 – A stands for attitude. How something is taught must produce a Christ-like spirit
 – The second A is for action. Teaching must be put into practice to be helpful.
