PRAYER

Prayer is the greatest privilege that a Christian possesses. It should never be a formality, but an earnest expression from the heart. “We are the children of God,” (I John 3:2) therefore, we can go to the Father as His child and ask for our needs and express our thanks for what we have received. He freely gives us all things, (Romans 8:32). He gives to them that ask him, (Matthew 7:11). We are to let our requests be made known unto him, (Philippians 4:6). Christ and the Holy Spirit understand and intercede for us, (Hebrews 4:15 and Romans 8:26-27.

God does not hear or answer the prayer of everyone who prays, but only those who are obedient to His will. “We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God and do His will, him He heareth.” (John 9:31).

Romans 8:26-27 tells us that we know not how we ought to pray, but the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us according to the will of God, for he knows our heart and mind. Also, God knows what we need, even before we ask it. We are to ask in faith, with a forgiving heart, unselfishly, in humility, and in the name of Christ.

Prayer changes things. James 5:16 tells us that the supplication of a righteous man avails much. We are never to be over–anxious, but in everything, by prayers, with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known unto God. If we do this, we have the promise that the peace of God which passes all understanding, shall guard our hearts and thoughts.

God will answer the prayer of His children. It may not be as we expect, for all things work together for good for those who love God and keep His commandments. All that God has promised, we are justified in expecting; and what he has promised, and we expect, we should pray for. God gives to him who prays, when it is needful. “And this is the boldness which we have toward Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us: and if we know that He heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.” (I John 5:14-15).
